Derek Hoetmer on Landscape Architecture & Urban Design | S2 Ep. 17
Tuesday Apr 27, 2021
Tuesday Apr 27, 2021
Derek Hoetmer, a.k.a "Subway Derek," and I met in 2012 at the 46 Street Station in Astoria, New York City. Despite our different backgrounds and career paths, we were both 21 years old, in our first couple weeks of living and interning in New York City hundreds of miles from home. The circumstances bizarre, and if you know NYC culture, the likelihood of us talking on my podcast ten years later is probably less than a million in one. Not only that, but I actually flew to Kansas for Derek and his wife Bailea's wedding in 2013. I always enjoyed walking around the city with Derek as he pointed out different flora, fauna, and famous architectural structures along our path. What to Expect (and NOT Expect) in your 20s | S2 Ep. 13
Tuesday Mar 30, 2021
Tuesday Mar 30, 2021
This episode of the Creative Truth is a little different. I turned 30 in December, so I wanted to take a moment to look back and reflect on my 20s. When I was in my early twenties, turning 30 seemed like a lifetime away. I thought by 30 I'd be married with kids, and a millionaire to boot. Instead, I spent my 20s battling with bankruptcy, relationships, alcohol, and chronic depression. Thankfully, looking back, I don't regret any of it and I feel better than ever. My hope is that by sharing my experience, other people fighting battles will realize that 1: You're not alone 2: There is a light at the end of the tunnel 3: There is help out there. If you or someone you know needs help, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255.

Sarah Colletta on User Experience (UX) Research | S2 Ep.9
Tuesday Mar 02, 2021
Tuesday Mar 02, 2021
Sarah and I met in college and lived together our senior year, as well as during her three years of grad school studying "HCI," or Human Computer Interaction. During that time, we'd watch Black Mirror on netflix, try on VR headsets, and muse about the future of humanity and technology. Sarah is a UX researcher in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and I VERY much enjoyed talking with her during this week's episode of the Creative Truth. I met Christine in 2012 on the first day of our unpaid internship at the Late Show with David Letterman. We were both 21 at the time and were studying broadcasting at our respective colleges. We shared the 14th floor, the writer's floor, and a lot of personal beliefs and interests in common, so we immediately hit it off and have been friends ever since! I had a great time talking to and learning from Christine. She also has her own podcast, Obliterate, about breaking up with partners, family and friends.
